Passport photo rejected for background
The background is not a single official colour, or it has shadows, objects, or texture.
Why the authority rejects this
Issuing authorities use the area around the head to confirm a plain backdrop. A wall with a picture rail, a curtain fold, or a yellow lamp spill is treated as a non-compliant background even if the face is sharp.
What to do
- Stand 50–80 cm in front of a plain wall that matches the document (white, off-white, or light grey).
- Use front lighting so you do not cast a shadow on the wall.
- Do not crop so tightly that software has to invent background around the hair.
- Run PicsForm Verify and read the background check before you pay.
