Passport photo rejected for background

The background is not a single official colour, or it has shadows, objects, or texture.

Why the authority rejects this

Issuing authorities use the area around the head to confirm a plain backdrop. A wall with a picture rail, a curtain fold, or a yellow lamp spill is treated as a non-compliant background even if the face is sharp.

What to do

  1. Stand 50–80 cm in front of a plain wall that matches the document (white, off-white, or light grey).
  2. Use front lighting so you do not cast a shadow on the wall.
  3. Do not crop so tightly that software has to invent background around the hair.
  4. Run PicsForm Verify and read the background check before you pay.
