Indian passport & e-Visa photo requirements

Indian passport applications use 35×45 mm colour photos with a white background via Passport Seva. Indian e-Visa portals require a square photo (35×35 mm in our catalog, minimum 350×350 px) — a different aspect ratio that catches many first-time applicants. Last verified 2026-08-18. Passport vs e-Visa — different shapes

Do not crop a passport photo square for an e-Visa upload, or vice versa. PicsForm enforces the correct aspect ratio per document ID.

  • Indian Passport — 35×45 mm, white background, max ~300 KB for many uploads
  • Indian e-Visa — square format, min 350×350 px, white background

Common rejection reasons in India

  • Wrong aspect ratio (square vs rectangular)
  • Background not plain white
  • Shadows from indoor ceiling lights
  • Face too small in the frame
  • Glasses or tinted lenses
