DPI guide
DPI calculator for passport and visa photos
Embassies specify physical size in millimetres and digital size in pixels. DPI (dots per inch) connects the two. Most passport specs assume 300 DPI; some visa portals (for example Australian ImmiAccount) expect higher-resolution exports.

413 × 531 px
Formula: px = (mm ÷ 25.4) × 300. Print at 35×45 mm when exported at this resolution.
The formula
pixels = (millimetres ÷ 25.4) × DPI. For a 35×45 mm photo at 300 DPI: width = (35 ÷ 25.4) × 300 ≈ 413 px; height = (45 ÷ 25.4) × 300 ≈ 531 px.
300 DPI vs 600 DPI
- 300 DPI — standard for US, UK, Schengen, India passport catalog entries
- 600 DPI — used for some high-resolution visa uploads (for example au-visa at 827×1063 px)
- Upsampling a blurry photo to higher DPI does not add detail — start with a sharp capture
